Genius and Asperger's syndrome

Philosophy is really for everyman. However, there have been some truly remarkable sages throughout the ages. They have been visionaries, who , because of their genius, have foreseen the future.

Aristotle and Plato recognized that there were cyclical occurences in nature and thus talked about archetypes descending from the Absolute. In the same way, Carl Jung spoke about these archetypes.Quite often, geniuses have been observed to share some of the characteristics associated with Asperger's syndrome: there is a delay in speech, there is a high memorization ability, there may be odd physcial obsessions or fixations.

However, this great focus may be just what they need to produce the scientific explanations and mathematical formulations that are necessary to persuade the community of researchers to believe in their hypothesis.

Such is the case with Albert Einstein and is characteristic of many present day scientists who have a keen desire to prove their theories. Einstein did not speak until he was about 4 years old. Quite often, autistic children go on to have normal lives with the help of proper early schooling and proper supportive parenting

. Even Bill Gates is suspected of having this syndrome which is characterized by a lack of social skills and a fixation on ordering objects. I personally have worked with an autistic child and have noticed that he was very bright, but liked to order things in sequences and was extremely repetitive in his speech. He was, however, with me very affectionate, but with other children would display some aggression. I have added the official autism TV youtube channel link below.

Researchers suggest a possible genetic predisposition and some a causal effect from childhood vaccinations contaiing Mercury and pesticides on food. some medical researchers recommend chelation therapy to remove the heavy metals.

  • Lies & Lingerie at the White House

Things aren't always what they seem to be at the White House. When I first heard that First Lady Michelle had gone on a shopping spree on Madison Avenue's Agent Provocateur, at first I was disgusted. After all, the media certainly never reported any... - 11 days ago

My vote is for American Idol. At least it's partially honest. The Judges are entertainers, but Barack Obama pretends to be a civil servant, when he is nothing more than a Chicago politician. As Barry said so many times before, if, after four years,... - 2 weeks ago

It was suggested today by one political analyst that Obama is chuckling at the in-fighting occurring during the GOP debates and primaries. And he may be, but at his own peril. You see, the MSM is not reporting on a very significant court case in... - 2 weeks ago

Hi Stacy, right now I'm taking care of my friend's child with Autism. I have some webpages that have advice for dietary recommendations for those with Asperger's. I believe some have avoided gluten and milk products. I also have another blog on alternative Medicine with a post on autism http://holism.890m.com/blog/

An incredibly moving article. The video said more than words could ever express. I, too, am an advocate for the cause. You have a new friend and fan. Thanks for sharing.

From John Henry Newman, the Birmingham cleric that the Pope was talking about...was a sensitive Piscean and John Phillips, the radio transmitter on board Titanic, who shouted abuse across to the Californian and thus led to the corresponding radio being turned off and leading to loss of life, was a 'fire' sign aries who are known to flip quick. Astrology is the way to understanding God.

I was diganosed with Asperger's sydrome, and it turned out to be child genius sydrome. Genius sydrome syptoms include:

-repeated speach

-OCD

-lack of social skills

-Gifted children learn more quickly than other children

-The gap in intellect between gifted children and average children is the same as between average children and those deemed to need special education

-Gifted children get bored easily

-Gifted children have good memory capacity (I have memorised pi (not all the way) and chemical formulas.)

-Many gifted children have trouble socialising with their peers

-Gifted girls are often more difficult to identify

-Gifted children can have Specific Learning Difficulties

-Teachers can be antagonistic towards gifted children

-All intelligent children (I have an IQ 132 and am 13) have trouble coping with their intellect.

After the psychologist got all of this information, and found I ticked all of it (I had complained of other students, how they were immature, stupid, and not on "my level"; I had also complained of teachers) he diganosed me. Why is it called child genius sydrome when I am 13 IQ points away from being one? I am not a genius yet.

Hi Phoebe, nice to meet you. Yes, I believe that some geniuses have Asperger's syndrome, but not all. I think that some with Asperger's may have different insights that may even keep the child so entertained internally, that he/she isn't interested in socializing.

Great article. My son is AS and so far so good. Learning to be socially interactive in school and has a great support group that meets 2 times a week.

A child with Asperger's could also test in the Superior or gifted/genius level for IQ 130 plus. On the other hand, another child diagnosed with Asperger's might test lower with a depressed score and splintered skills. The scores, often, are uneven depending on the type of test, tester, attention etc. many would fall short of that expectation and it's rough going for this lot. I think Parenthood displays a fair portrayal of the problems associated with Asperger's with a nice parallel to the gifted little girl in the show who the parents feared could have Max's disorder. She ended up being gifted but not on the autism spectrum.
